Believe it or not, this is a real commercial for a real mobile home company in Alabama. Awesome.

Is this supposed to be creepy? Cause it is.

Research.

Can never really start ‘em too young can ya?

Not sure where I’ve been, but never heard of these guys. This YouTube video has almost 1.5 million views so clearly I’m pretty late to the party on this one. But the name of the band is right on if this is the kind of fare they string together. I mean really, this isn’t anything we don’t know. Nirvana became the most overrated band almost overnight using just three chords, so it’s obvious slightly more talented artists use four. But they way in which these guys demonstrate that fact is not only funny, but it actually sounds pretty good.

This is a whole lotta fun. Check it out:

Catch the moment.

We’re all the same on the inside.

Magically delicious!

Can’t go too long without posting something Star Wars related right?

Sounds good. Monday work for you?

Record Store Day

17
Apr
2010

All over the net today you are being reminded that today is record store day and that you should be out there buying music at your local independent retailer. While I try to do some of this throughout the year, it would be MORE than disengenuous of me to say this to anyone as I am finding myself buying music off the net at a record pace. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. While it is a nice sentiment and has nothing but good at it’s heart, I for one won’t be telling anyone to support their local store for one day when there are 364 other days a year we could be supporting the indie store to keep them in business. Just the other day I was driving through my old home town and thought to myself “I should stop at “Fine Groove Records” only to find it has been closed. While it’s sad, I haven’t exactly been stopping down there once or twice a month to buy my music. I’m much more likely to go to Amazon, iTunes or emusic to get my music fix. I’m quite curious as to others buying habits. Are you all like me? Or do you get to the record store more than once or twice a year to get your music? Unfortunately, I think we’re well past the tipping point as to keeping a vibrant, physical music marketplace alive.

cgy-5-neck-guitar

Can’t manage to get together a whole band? No worries, if you had one of these, a five-necked instrument that combines a bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, plus a harmonica. It’s owned by Saskatchewan country music artist Steve Puto, who’s currently loaning it to the Cantos Music Foundation in Calgary for their museum collection of instruments.

Personally, I’m still working on learning to play a regular old one-necked guitar, but this looks pretty amazing. CBC News has the full story.

Only you…

In honor of the Cannes Film Fest announcing its 2010 titles…

Personally, I have no trouble wearing my love for everything Joss Whedon right on my sleeve, and fan remixes and reimaginings of his work are always welcome, too. This past week, an extremely detailed 8-bit videogame mockup version of Whedon’s web series Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog turned up online, and I gotta say, I’m impressed. This is only a video, there is no game version of this, but the translation into the old-school video-game look and feel (not to mention sound) is pretty awesome. So far it’s just the first act of the series, but I hope DoctorOctoroc finishes the rest of it!

If you haven’t seen the original series, it’s now available on DVD and on Netflix Instant Watch, and it’s well worth it. Whedon + Neil Patrick Harris + Felicia Day + Nathan Fillion + music + geeky story = WIN.

EDIT: What do you know, Act Two just went up today (the 15th), in two parts. Embedding those after the jump.
