Poor E

Eels have a new one called “End Times” and it sounds like lost love. Recorded on a four track, it’s obviously quite lo-fi with the songwriting taking front and center with minimal flourish. This seems really autobiographical and I find myself liking this quite a bit more than the recent “Hombre Lobo”. The promos “Little Bird” and “In My Younger Days” capture something universal here, and you can’t help but sympathize with each song’s message.
“In my younger days, this wouldn’t have been so hard,”

Wow… “Little Bird”… shit. That hit hard. I think anyone can relate to that.
I love the Eels, but haven’t picked up an album of there’s since “Shootenanny.” I’m getting this on ASAP. Thank you, Scott.

Yeah, it ends so quick, but it gets right to the heart of the matter. Got to see their (his) movie screening/book reading/concert a couple years back and it was so different than any show I’ve ever been to, I’ve been a fan ever since. At the time, I was a bit “what the..” but it was a really nice evening. Hope I get to see them (him) again sometime.
If you ever get a chance check out “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”. E’s dad was a brilliant, and at times troubled man, and he documents his life growing up with him. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/manyworlds/
