After laying the little rugrats down for the night, figured I’d do a bit of channel flipping. After getting disgusted with the Timberwolves latest defensive “effort” against the Grizzlies, I happened upon A&E and lo and behold there’s action star and martial arts legend Steven Seagal patrolling the streets of Jefferson Parish in Louisiana and taking down bad guys. At first, I’m thinking “huh? is this a new gritty detective drama starring the 80′s icon? Is this a new attempt at acting relevance?” As a matter of fact no. Apparently, Mr. Seagal now works (and has been working for 20 years) as an Assistant Deputy Sherriff in Louisiana laying out the dregs of society. This is a true reality show. Seagal teaches self defense (one of the funnier scenes so far is when he’s trying some martial arts moves on his brothers in arms) to the unit as well as being a patrol officer. Very similar to “Cops” (with Seagal as the voiceover) this show is very entertaining to watch. It’s great fun to watch faces as they realize who’s putting the bracelets on them or someone they know. At any rate, if you’re a fan of “Cops” or any other cop show, this is a nice addition to that cannon.

When I saw this, I could only think that it was too good to be true. I sense a resurgence in this man’s popularity.

I’ll be checking this out on a weekly basis. You really get a feeling that these other guys on the squad have a huge respect for Seagal and he’s just “one of the guys”. Cool stuff.
