Never, never will I understand men who throw over everything for some woman. The trick, the joy of it, is to prosper on all fronts, enlist money in the service of love and love in the service of money. As long as I am getting rich, I feel that all is well. It is my Presbyterian blood.

Had to throw out here another quote from Percy's 'The Moviegoer.' Just so many great excerpts in this one.

This is the book that beat out Revolutionary Road that year for some prestigious literary award and some thought it was an inexcusable mistake. I read Rev Road, and it is incredibly well-written, I can't believe it took this long to make a movie of it.

It was the National Book Award, yeah. And while I've never read Revolutionary Road, I can't imagine it being so much better than The Moviegoer that it was considered and inexcusable mistake. The Moviegoer is a genuine Southern classic and I cannot believe IT hasn't been made into a film yet.
