it might be worth changing the colour of the subthread arrow and the comment header from grey to some other colour, maybe the dark red used in the site header, because as it is now the arrow is faint.

I didn't see anything on my quick survey of the customizing features about images but I am sure there is something

just curious why would you want to disable a thread?

also curious, John are you seeing on the right hand side of every post "Block IP Delete"? If not you are not registered as an administer yet.

there seems to be a weird phenomenon on the lost thread where a couple of comments have jumped ahead in the future by their time stamp, and all more recent comments are tucked behind them… seeing if this is happening here too

so this is what a disqus comment system looks like… I mean aside from the colors, its a toned-down version of what ID does. thoughts?

Oh and I should say why I hate threads. When I come to the comments I scan down to the bottom immediately and read what is new. I do not like spending time having to go through and following through on replies. Its a pain in the ass in my opinion and counter intuitive to the way I think. I find it just easier to say @rot to simply quote a bit of the comment that I'm referencing.

This is about more than threading, its about archiving comment histories, linking comments, allowing commenters to have profiles.

As I said before, the threading would only need to be used for those heated debates, to keep them separate so that multiple conversations can occur simultaneously… and I don't see it being hard to follow, you sort by newest comments at the top and whatever threads have new comments will show first. You can still use the @ for basic conversation, but I cannot count the times I have been in conversations on this site and it has been a struggle to keep focused on what was said in context of what was said… its not just a matter of quoting some text… if it is in context of a thread you can see it more clearly.

I understand that its more about threading and such but its just a real big peeve of mine. Also for someone who spends his day on the internet and follows a lot of design sites and such I really have a low opinion of many of the social media concepts. I've never once been interested in Twitter, I am on facebook but I don't really know why.

Oh and perhaps Disqus allows you to sort better. I tried the links at the top when it was ID and it didn't change the order.

I'm not saying its a deal breaker for me to have or not have comment threads really though. I've been too busy with live to watch movies or anything else for the past while. I'm just saying my preference for things. :)

No I think you are right, I mean the threading would work in certain contexts, but for the average person it could be problematic trying to follow things. I think maybe sometime down the road the technology will work in a way where it appeases both camps, but for now I am fine having it flat like this. Disqus at least allows you to search comment history and link individual comments which make it easier to keep track of the debate.

there is a facebook connect tab I have not activated yet, but if I understand it right, the comments posted on facebook to our articles would also show up here… this merging of multiple places into one cohesive conversation is the future. methinks.

I have added as my blog the subsection of rowthree which has all my posts. admin may want to do the same. Otherwise it seems weird listing rowthree.com as a blog link while you are on the blog.
