I take a lot of shit from a lot of people because I like Coldplay. That is until I crack them in the jaw with iron fist and ninja like reflexes. In fact, I’m not afraid to admit that last year’s Coldplay record was one of my favorites on the year.
One more reason to like them? Just give them your email address and they’ll give you a free download of thir live album. I just did it and it took seconds. It's been out for 10 days now
The download is available through the summer tour and free hard copy at concerts, if you swing that way. The sound is perfect and the crowd participation impressive.
I agree, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends was pretty good. The Prospekt's March EP might even be a bit better. There is reason this band is one of the 3 most popular in the world (or hated, user depending).

Coldplay is a very unique, influential band. Anyone that says otherwise, whether they like them or not, is a nincompoop. I used to be on the “hate 'em” side until I actually started listening to their stuff. Their new album is a masterpiece.

I enjoyed A Rush of Blood to the Head quite a lot. But for the life of me, I can't connect with any of their other albums.

Christian has the best comment on this post. I agree 100%. Rush of Blood has good moments, but everything else I can leave alone. I'm a bit surprised that they are as polarizing as they are.

Rush of Blood is probably their best (or at least my favorite), but I really like Parachutes a lot too. I guess they're polarizing because they do have a little bit of the cheesy feel to them. Kind of a darker version of Five for Fighting. I think some people are afraid of being labelled as a contemporary adult music listener.

I'm not a huge fan either though there are tunes form all their albums that I like.
If we're talking new(ish) Brit Pop, I'm a bigger fan of both Keane and the Kaiser Chiefs. The latter are beyond awesome. Their second album was mediocre but “Off With Their Heads” which came out last year is all sort of crazy greatness.
