The Yeah Yeah Yeahs just put up the video for their new single “Zero.” But I disappointedly found out that they’re going to be at Coachella the day I’m skipping, so I won’t get to see them. Boo. Although the friend I’m going with doesn’t like them, so maybe it’s for the best.

ralph, I go back and forth on female/male singer biases. My current favorite is bands that have BOTH. My current least favorite is solo singers, unless I knew them first from a band (Jenny Lewis/Rilo Kiley or Neko Case/The New Pornographers, for example). That’s a stupid bias, but I can’t seem to shake it.

i tend to gravitate away from female oriented singers. i don’t know why. i also generally hate dance-pop, but i really like that Lady Gaga “Just Dance” song. it is catchy.

Yeah this was definitely the year of bubble-gum, pop rock for me (curiously with mostly female vocals). Just got into the “Yeah Yeah Yeahs” too. Damn good stuff.

Also, completely overlooked the new “Sun Kil Moon” record that came out. Listening right now. Quality.

Raconteurs, Death Cab, Sons & Daughters, MGMT, Ting Tings, Mates of State, Dodos, She & Him? Dude, we need to hang out. I also can’t get the hype about Bon Iver, although I do like the Fleet Foxes album. But I don’t listen to it over and over. Clearly I must check out the rest of your list stat.

One album very few people I know got a listen to of was “Alopecia” by WHY?

A mix of white boy rap and indie rock, reminding me of everything from Soul Coughing to Cake to Arcade Fire to the Streets, and more.

The Ting Tings are indeed catchy, but I've only heard a few of the songs off their album. Their video for Great DJ is so silly and 80s. I love it. While I didn't give it number one on mine (I gave it numero dos), I think MGMT's Oracular Spectacular is probably the album of the year, because these guys came out of nowhere and rocked the socks off of everyone. As far as the new album from The Killers, it's solid. Maybe underwhelming, but solid and I've noticed the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Goodnight, Travel Well (listen to it here) is such an epic song. An absolute masterpiece. Losing Touch kicks all kinds of ass too.

I thought Third was disappointing at first but yeah, you have to let it sink in. It’s a grower.

I couldn’t make a top 10, it would have to be a top 50 or something. i had a good year, and specifically it was a better year for hard rock/metal than there’s been a good long time.

I’ve seen many people saying they hate “Machine Gun” from “Third” and I just absolutely love it. Made me go back and discover the “Roseland, NYC” release. Can’t believe I waited this long to hear it.
