51n5uyhfkil_sl500_aa240_NPR is streaming the new Andrew Bird album “Noble Beast” front to back before it’s release in a couple weeks. After one listen, it seems to cover mostly the same ground as his terrific “Armchair Apocrypha” from a couple years back. The usual suspects are all here, the gentle violin plucking, the whistling (of course), the literate lyrical turns. Something seems to be missing though. At times I found myself thinking that any of these tracks would fit on his previous release a little TOO easily. It’s well put together and the tracks are nice enough, but there’s not a lot that grabs you and begs to be listened to especially when compared to the aforementioned record.  You be the judge.

If you like this, you’ll love “Armchair”. Give that a try.
